Description
Commonly referred to as the “Red Book,” it consists of nearly 400 pages of Douglas County history covering such subjects as geology, historical highlights of towns, transportation, organizations, and industry. Brief histories of historical homes and other structures are included. Most of the book, however, is dedicated to the pioneering families of Douglas County. These biographies are presented in alphabetical order and were written by the decedents of those pioneers. It was published in 1982 and can be purchased for $50 with free shipping. The Douglas County Historical Society’s mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and publish historical material which is related to Douglas County, Oregon. Specifically, we maintain The Floed-Lane House Museum and open it to the public. We also publish the Umpqua Trapper four times a year. It is our goal to make young people aware of their heritage and the history of their community. Home Page to DCHS.org
